Core Promise: GeneGaze performs all genetic analysis entirely on your device. Your genetic data never leaves your device. No servers ever handle your genetic information.

Information We Do Not Collect

GeneGaze does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:

  • Raw genome files (VCF, 23andMe, AncestryDNA, or any other format)
  • Parsed SNP data or genotype information
  • Health marker analysis results (across all 1,000+ variants)
  • Medication response profiles (for 50+ drugs)
  • Nutrition or supplement analysis data
  • Genome comparison results
  • Any derivative of your genetic information

Your DNA data is processed locally using your device's own computing power. At no point is any genetic data sent to any server, API, or third-party service.

Information We May Collect

Apple Account Information

When you purchase GeneGaze through the App Store, Apple processes your payment. We receive only a transaction receipt confirming your purchase. We do not receive your name, email address, or payment details.

App Analytics (Optional)

If you have opted into sharing analytics with developers through your Apple device settings, we may receive aggregated, anonymized usage data provided by Apple. This data contains no genetic information and cannot be used to identify individual users.

Crash Reports (Optional)

If you have opted into sharing crash data, we may receive anonymized technical information about app crashes. These reports contain only technical diagnostic data (device model, OS version, crash stack traces) and never contain genetic data or analysis results.

How Your Data Is Stored

All analysis results are stored locally on your device using IndexedDB, a browser-standard local storage mechanism.

  • Your data exists only on your device
  • Clearing your browser or app data will permanently delete all stored results
  • There is no cloud sync, no server backup, and no remote copy of your data
  • Uninstalling GeneGaze removes all associated data from your device

Local Processing

GeneGaze processes your genome entirely on your device. Your raw DNA data file is parsed, analyzed, and stored exclusively within the app's local storage on your iPhone. At no point during analysis or ongoing use is any genetic data transmitted to any server, cloud service, or third party. The only network requests GeneGaze makes are for app access verification — these requests contain no genetic information.

Privacy by Design

This privacy architecture stands in contrast to many consumer genomics services that upload genetic data to remote servers for processing and storage. GeneGaze was designed from the ground up with a privacy-by-design approach, ensuring your most sensitive personal data never leaves your control.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal or genetic data with any third party. Period.

The email report and PDF export features use your device's native sharing capabilities. When you export and share a PDF report, the file is generated locally and shared through your device's built-in sharing interface. It does not pass through our servers.

Genome Comparison Feature

GeneGaze allows you to compare up to 3 genome files side by side. All comparison processing occurs entirely on your device. No genome data from any file — yours or anyone else's — is transmitted, stored remotely, or shared during comparison. You are responsible for obtaining explicit consent from any other person before analyzing their genome file.

Third-Party Services

GeneGaze uses the following third-party services:

  • Apple App Store / StoreKit — For purchase processing and transaction verification only. Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.

We do not integrate with any analytics platforms, advertising networks, or tracking services beyond the optional, anonymized Apple analytics described above.

Children's Privacy

GeneGaze is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.

Security

The strongest security measure we take is architectural: your genetic data never leaves your device, so it cannot be intercepted, breached, or leaked from a server we don't have.

We recommend the following best practices to protect your data on-device:

  • Keep your device's operating system up to date
  • Use a strong passcode or biometric lock on your device
  • Be mindful of who has physical access to your device

Your Rights & Data Deletion

You have full control over your data at all times:

  • Access — All your data is visible directly within the app. There is nothing stored remotely that you cannot see.
  • Deletion — You can delete all genetic data stored by GeneGaze at any time. In the iOS app, all genome data is stored locally on your device in the app's sandboxed storage. Deleting the app or using the in-app data management options will permanently remove all genetic data from your device. GeneGaze has no ability to recover deleted data because no genetic data is ever transmitted to or stored on any external server.
  • Portability — You can export your analysis as a PDF report at any time.
  • No account required — GeneGaze does not require you to create an account, provide an email address, or share any personal information to use the app.

GDPR & CCPA Compliance

Since GeneGaze does not collect or store genetic data on any server, many traditional data protection obligations do not apply in the conventional sense. However, we are committed to the spirit of these regulations:

  • We minimize data collection to the absolute minimum necessary
  • We provide full transparency about what data exists and where
  • We give you complete control over your data
  • We never sell or share personal information

Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, the changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
