What raw DNA files does GeneGaze support?
GeneGaze supports raw data files from 23andMe, AncestryDNA, and most other consumer genotyping services that export plain-text TSV or TXT files. VCF files are also supported. If you're unsure, try uploading. If the format isn't recognized, the app will tell you.
Does GeneGaze upload my DNA to a server?
Never. All analysis runs entirely on your device. Your iPhone processes the file locally and no genetic data is ever transmitted to any server. GeneGaze carries Apple's "Data Not Collected" privacy label across all categories. Your genome stays yours. Read our full Privacy Policy for details.
How do I access GeneGaze on the web?
After purchasing on iOS, the app generates a unique web access code (format: GAZE-XXXX-XXXX). Open the app, go to Settings, and find your code. Enter it at genegaze.app to unlock web access. It's included free for all iOS purchasers. You can also sign in with the same Apple ID you used to buy the app.
What does "Educational Only" mean?
GeneGaze is a personal health education tool, not a medical device.
It helps you understand what research says about your genetic variants. It does not diagnose conditions and should never be used as the sole basis for health decisions.
Always discuss significant findings with a qualified healthcare provider or genetic counselor. Find one at findageneticcounselor.nsgc.org.
Is GeneGaze a one-time purchase?
Yes. GeneGaze is a one-time $9.99 purchase. There are no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, and no hidden fees. Ever. All features, current and future updates, are included in that single purchase. We don't monetize your data. Revenue comes only from the app purchase.
My match rate is lower than expected. Why?
Match rate depends on which SNPs your testing provider included. 23andMe v5 and AncestryDNA v2+ generally produce the highest match rates (65–75%). Older chips or less common providers may match fewer variants. This is normal and doesn't indicate a problem with your data. GeneGaze will still analyze every variant it can find.
How do I delete my data?
Since all data is stored locally on your device, deleting the app permanently removes all data. No server-side deletion request needed. Within the app, you can also use the "Analyze Another Genome" button to clear stored results. GeneGaze has no ability to recover deleted data because nothing is ever stored externally.
Where can I find mental health resources?
Genetic findings can sometimes feel heavy. Support is always available:
- NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness): 1-800-950-6264
- Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 741741
These resources are also accessible from within the GeneGaze app on every screen, and from the footer of every page on this site.
